Since last time I posted "Pura un siccome un angelo," the aria from La Traviata where Germont pleads with the doomed Violetta not to ruin his son's wedding plans, it is only fitting that today I post "Di Provenza Il Mar"--another stunning aria from Germont in which he pleads with his son to think of his family:It is sung by my new favorite baritone Dimitri Hvorostovsky. While youtube tells me that there's also a version by Placido Domingo, perhaps the world's best tenor, I might politely suggest that Verdi composed the role for a baritone... Translation here.
